The wonderful life of a facilities worker...

Today someone took down my name and my boss' name because they were so mad.  Last week I got lied to three times by some Asian guys playing basketball, and when we told them that normally the police get involved if they continue to lie they ditched out before we came back. The day before that some guy on the racquetball team told me to "go above and beyond my job" and get him a wristband since he was "in the middle of something".  I don't know if I have been lied to this much in my life before.  It is shocking to me that BYU students lie.  I mean, I don't know why I am so surprised, but I am.  I guess lying just is a foreign concept to me.

My job really is pretty dang easy.  On Mondays I work from 4:30 - 10:30 in the weight room.  I swipe ID cards to make sure the students are full-time or have paid the fee, are clean shaven, and are dressed appropriately.  If not they aren't allowed in. Today some kid walked in the weight room while I was swiping someone's card, so I asked the kid whose card I was swiping if I knew who he was and he said it was his brother. I asked him to go tell his brother he needed to check in, which he did, and his brother laughed and continued to walk away and start lifting.  I went in there to ask him to come and check in and he said he already had.  I wasn't sure so I politely asked him to come and check in, he walked away laughing, to which I got a little more serious.  He finally looked at me and stormed out ticked.  About 30 minutes later he came back with his ID (which worked...who knows why he didn't just come check in again...) asked me for my name and my boss' name (charming fellow...eh?).  While he was asking me I was trying so hard not to laugh (I corrected him on the spelling of my name, just to make sure he got it right), and also told him my supervisor was in the weight room currently and I could get him.  He didn't really seem to like that idea much. The point of this story? What the heck is so hard about just telling someone a 9 digit number more than once.  I don't get it.

Encounters such as these aren't frequent, but each time they happen they leave me a little sick to my stomach.  I  put on a pretty good face for the guy today in the weight room, but inside my stomach was churning.  I mean, who really likes getting yelled (exaggeration...i know) at? It's definitely not fun.

On Fridays I work from 5:45 - 8:30 in the morning in facilities.  I just walk around once an hour and make sure everyone using the gyms and racquetball courts have wristbands and set up nets whenever they need to be set up.  Then I work from 5:30 - 10:30 Friday nights.  Then I turn around and work from 6:30 am - 2:30 pm Saturdays at the outdoor tennis courts and from 4:30 - 10:30 in facilities.  Basically, Fridays and Saturdays are pretty rough.  But, the rest of my week is nice cause of it! At the tennis courts I find myself falling asleep - not so good!  One Saturday I was so tired that I set my alarm for every five minutes and would fall asleep in between, wake up long enough to check the courts to make sure no one was playing without a wristband, and fall back asleep.  Pretty great eh?

With that being said, I have SO much down time.  I am able to get homework done! Do I always do it? Naw...I have watched a lot of movies lately.  But, when I do get my homework done it is super nice!

So... if you are looking for a job, enjoy being lied to and yelled at, enjoy faces like the above picture, love feeling like everyone hates you, and want time to do homework while you work...facilities is the perfect fit for you! I might even be able to hook you up....just give me a call :) I would love to share the joy of the wonderful life of a facilities worker!

A Real Life Fairytale

Well my dear friends, it is true.  I am engaged! I cannot be happier.  I get to marry my best friend. :) Stephen is truly the man of my dreams (except better than I ever dreamed).  He is hardworking, loyal, smart, good at sports, loving, kinds, always includes everyone, thoughtful, does everything he can to make sure I'm happy, never argues, and pretty dang good looking! Obviously he is all those things and more, but you get the point.  He is the perfect match for me and I can't believe I found him! I have so much fun when I am with him and laugh a lot! Life is just better with him, and I can't imagine it any other way.  Most days I wake up and still can't believe how lucky and blessed I am.  I don't know what I did to deserve him, but I am so grateful that the Lord blessed me with Stephen.
This is my beautiful ring! If you can't tell from the picture, the middle stone is not a diamond.  It's a sapphire, and there is actually a pretty great story to go along with my ring.  Stephen and I went to visit in Powell two weekends ago.  While we were there we decided to tell my family that we were getting married at a family dinner on Sunday.  I am so glad I did! My grandpa Don and grandma Ruth brought down some of my gems my great-grandpa had made (cut? I'm not exactly sure what it is called...but he worked with gems) and told me that if we wanted we could use one in my ring.  We took them back with us and two days later my grandpa passed away.  I could not have been more grateful that my grandpa got to know that we are getting married!  Anyways, Stephen was surprising me with my ring, so he took them and did what he wanted with them.  Well, one of the stones happened to be this sapphire! It is a light purple color, and I absolutely love it.  My ring could not be more perfect.  It is my great-grandpa's sapphire, given to me by my grandparents, in a ring chosen by my love.  I really am so blessed!

It's crazy to think that I have found the man I get to spend eternity with.  I cannot be more ecstatic.  For journaling purposes, here's the story of us :) Feel free to not read it, or do.  Whatever floats your boat!

Stephen was in my ward this last year.  I remember really noticing him for the first time at FHE.  I can tell you exactly where I was sitting and he was sitting.  We were across from each other and I remember thinking how cute he was and that I wanted to get to know him better.  I secretly (not so secretly to my roommates) hoped he would ask me out.  But, I didn't really have control over that, so I figured oh well.  The first time he asked me out I like freaked out!  He called me and the weekend he asked me out I was going to my sister to see my nephew, Ethan.  I told him that we should do something some other time cause I really really wanted to go out with him! (I didn't mention the really really part, just that thought it would be fun to go out).  So he called me again the next weekend, and I was going out of town again except to my brother's for my nieces', Taybree's, baby blessing.  Once again I mentioned how we should really hang out cause I thought it would be fun.

Thinking all hope was lost, I was surprised when he asked if me and my roommates wanted to go bowling.  It was obvious that this was not a date and that anyone who wanted to go was invited, but I got to hang out with him nonetheless.  (even though it wasn't a date, he did pay for me.  isn't he the best?? :) So bowling was fun, and I remember being so nervous around him! He also took me on a motorcycle ride (I think it was later that night).  A couple weeks went by and he didn't ask me out, so I got up the courage and asked him out on a huge group date my apartment was doing...and he said yes!! We carved pumpkins and ate dinner, and I still remember some of our conversation.  (Funny story about this date. He called me about 30 minutes before it was supposed to start and told me that he was going to be about 20 minutes late because he was in Salt Lake.  Before this he had also told me that he had to leave early, so I basically thought he was coming up with any excuse possible to make the date as short as possible.  Later I found out that he really didn't mean to be late...and had plans already for after.  I left that date feeling like nothing would ever happen after that.)

I think Stephen ended up asking me out within the next two weeks.  He took me out to eat Indian, which is my favorite! I'm pretty sure he didn't know that at the time, but I loved it!  I remember getting ready took me forever that night.  I still remember what I wore and how I did my hair.  I was SO nervous haha. (I really liked him and wanted to impress him...if you could tell).  Dinner that night was wonderful, and I really enjoyed talking to him.  I don't remember if we just hung out or went on more dates or what after that, but everything just slowly progressed! The first time he held my hand we were watching The Ultimate Gift.  He asked me if he could hold my hand (how cute is that?:)).  The first time he kissed me he saying goodnight outside my apartment.  I walked inside and couldn't contain my smile.  I was grinning ear to ear!

In January we broke up for a week, and man that week sucked.  We still hung out (haha...don't ask) and that was super hard being around him all the time, but it was better than not seeing him at all.  We went on a bike ride with his roommate and another girl and I rode with his roommate until we stopped half way and they told us that the girls were switching bikes.  I was so totally confused and did not understand what was going on.  Later that night he told me he wanted to get back together :). And after some talking I said yes! I'm so glad I did...for obvious reasons.

Well, the rest is history! We dated, had tons of fun, got to know each other better, and slowly fell in love. Stephen would surprise me with notes and flowers, and surprise visits.  Every little thing he did just made me fall more and more in love with him. I knew he was the right person for me way before he knew.  Patience was definitely required on my end.  I was just waiting for the time to be right and that wait seemed like forever.  We decided we were getting married but wanted to still let things grow for a while, and all it took was a week for us to know the time was right!  We went to my house, he asked my dad's permission, we told my family, and he proposed a week and a half later!

On Tuesday I had class until 9:30 and we had planned to go running after I got out of class. When I called Stephen to tell him I was out of class he told me that he had actually just gotten to the JKB parking lot and would come pick me up.  He showed up on Joe's motorcycle and I was like sweet! We went back to my apartment so I could eat some food, grabbed a couple helmets, and went for a ride.  He took me up to a park that we had been before that kind of overlooked Provo.  When we first got there the police came (which they always come wherever we are...I swear!).  After they left and told us we were just fine we walked over the a fence and just leaned against it talking.  We were talking about our future together when I thought I heard a mouse and began to freak out! After freaking out for a minute we decided to move back to the pavement :).  Stephen was hugging me as I told him how I envisioned our future and I could feel his heart beating like crazy.  I told him that his heart was freaking out, and he looked at me, smiled, and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him :).  Of course I said yes and immediately hugged him! I was  so so happy.  Eventually I realized I hadn't even looked at the ring and did and thought it was just absolutely amazing!

As I write this down, it really does just seem so perfect for me. All the little things that showed me how much he cared, the moments we shared together, the great amounts of love, all just added up.  As I look back on the last eight months it makes me realize that our story truly is wonderful.  I am living a real life fairytale :)

Dear Grandpa

My dear, sweet, loving, kind, grandpa,
I love you so much.  I can't believe you are gone.  You were supposed to live forever!  I really thought coke and hershey's kisses were the trick! :) I'm really going to need you ya know? I can't do this without you.  Thanks for being the best example to me ever.  I never heard you say a cross word or be angry, and the amount of love you showed for everyone you met was unbelievable.  I love how you could be friends with someone you only talked to for five minutes. The way you treated grandma is the way I always imagined being treated by my husband.  I'm so glad you got to meet Stephen and that you loved him and approve of him.  Knowing that means the world to me.  I'm also glad he got to meet you and see how amazing and wonderful of a man you were.  I'm also glad he got to hear your stories :)  Please come to my wedding? I can't imagine it without you.  There will be a spot there for you.  You have always had such a special place in my heart.  Whenever I came home from college I couldn't wait to go up the stairs and say hi to you.  Seeing you in your rocking chair with your headphones on was always such a happy sight.  You always made my days better.  Your smile and laughter were so contagious.  Getting to live with you was the greatest blessing ever.  Eating dinner with you and grandma every night was the best.  I loved hearing your stories all through dinner, even the ones I had heard over and over again :)  I'm so glad I have those stories to look back on now and remember.  Grandpa, you are one of the greatest people I know.  I cannot wait for our reunion in Heaven.  It will be the happiest day ever.  I know this is only a short time away from each other, but it will probably seem like a while for me.  Stay by my side, okay?  I need you.  Your example with stay with me always, and you will always be in my heart.  I LOVE YOU GRANDPA!!

Love,
Darc

Boyce Avenue/Secondhand Serenade

Back in December Chelsea told me about a Boyce Avenue concert in March.  I REALLY wanted to go, and even though Stephen and I hadn't been dating very long, I asked him to go with me (even though it was super far in the future).  So I bought tickets and I've been so excited ever since! Well the concert was last Saturday and it was AMAZING!!

We headed up to Salt Lake early so that we could eat dinner before.  We went to California Pizza kitchen and it was SOOOO good! I have had to eat a flexitarian (basically Vegan with some cheating involved) for the past three weeks but I really wanted to eat something good.  Plus, I am training for a half-marathon and I had ran 10 miles on Saturday so I felt justified eating it :) Anyways, it was awesome!  After dinner we headed to get in line and man, the line was so long! I wasn't super worried though, figuring that it would move fast.  But, I was wrong.  We stood in line for close to an hour and a half! It wouldn't have been too bad except that the wind was pretty bad and it was cold out.  The people in front of us were super nice (it was a family) and the dad kept talking to us about the concert and everything.  He had some pretty strong opinions about things and I was dying trying not to laugh out loud the whole time.

Well, eventually we got inside.  Stephen got us close to the front :) and the rest was just so great! The first band was just finishing by the time we got inside, but we got to hear Secondhand Serenade.  I love his music a lot, so I was super glad!

Boyce Avenue was AMAZING!! I loved all their music, and it was just so fun being with Stephen and spending the night with him.  Basically I had a wonderful time and am so lucky that I got to spend the night with my love!

(It was hot, if you can't tell from my super red cheeks and glistening face!)

If you haven't heard of Boyce Avenue before you should check out their music! They are three brothers from Puerto Rico and they have a lot of acoustic stuff.  Check em out!

FHE momma!

This semester I got a new calling....FHE mom! It has been great fun planning all the activities and getting to know my FHE group better.  One of the activities that I helped plan was a picture scavenger hunt.  Here are some of the pictures from the night!
Five person pyramid.

Picture inside a car!

Proposing to a waitress.

Hug a stranger...group hug even better!

Do exactly what the sign says.

Public work of art.

Bursting someones bubble.

It was a lot of fun and looking at everyone's pictures after was also super fun! I love being FHE mom and getting to hang out with such amazing people.  I truly am surrounded by awesome, talented, wonderful people.

Jo's Birthday and a Group Date

We decided that we wanted to throw Jo a suprise birthday party.  So after some great planning we made her some cakes, had Stephen and Joe kidnap her and take her to classic skating, and suprise her there and have a fun night of skating! It was a blast :)
This is not a good picture but this was my first attempt at making and using fondant.  I'm pretty happy with how they turned out!
Jo with her cakes! (with Liza's help)

Stephen and I skating! :)

Group date part 1: dinner for 18!

The group!!

After these pictures we took off and played two games of fugitive! It was a blast. If you ever need a huge group date idea I highly recommend doing dinner and playing fugtive.  It was awesome and could not have been more fun!

Murder Mystery Party

Some girls in my ward decided to put on a murder mystery party.  The theme was old hollywood so I spent Saturday afternoon getting dressed for my part, Natasha Gibbons! I was an aspiring actress, so along with a  beautiful dress came tons of makeup and crazy hair! A girl in my ward did it for me, and it was kinda fun getting all dolled up for a night, although I could never wear that much makeup in real life!
Me and Jo before...all dolled up!

Full dresses :)
Stephen and I...with Reid creeping in the back :)

Jo, Andrew, Stephen, Me, and Joe...apartment 14 and 10! Super fun to all get to go together! :)

I don't have many pictures...but it was such a fun night and way fun to get dressed up! We had a wonderful dinner and had fun playing our parts and just hanging out!! If you ever have a chance to go to one...do it. It's totally worth it!
